eID-process (WebID)

Requirements

  • a valid German identity card or electronic German residence permit with activated online ID function
  • a self-chosen 6-digit PIN or the 5-digit transport PIN
  • an NFC-enabled smartphone or card reader
  • the "My WebID" app

Process

First, select the verification method. When you click "Start," you will be redirected to WebID.

You should receive an email from WebID at this point, which contains a link to your identification procedure. This allows you to continue the verification process at a later time.

Now accept the WebID Terms and Conditions.

After accepting the WebID Terms and Conditions, instructions for the next steps will be displayed.

⚠️If you experience problems with the procedure, for example because you have not activated the eID function of your ID card, you can switch to the video identification procedure at any time on your procedure page at WebID. To do this, click "Switch to Video Ident" at the bottom left.

Now switch to the "My WebID" app on your smartphone. Enter the previously displayed transaction number there.

Select whether you already have a self-set 6-digit PIN or are still using the 5-digit PIN from initial use.

Now hold your identity document to the NFC chip. Hold the document as shown, horizontally against the upper back of the smartphone.

Then follow the final steps. You will receive a confirmation email from WebID confirming your successful verification.
